Halloween is over, the temperature starts to plummet and everyone is making plans for the upcoming months.

The holiday season is upon us and it’s traditionally time to spend with family and enjoy the festivities. But rather than the normal celebrations, maybe take advantage of some easier international travel.

We all know what to look for with a phony advertisement.

Whether it’s a pop-up guaranteeing dangerously fast weight loss or an email with a scheme to make millions quick, the signs are obvious.

But, what about a fake cure?

Most fake cures seem obvious. There’s no way violin music or charcoal powder can remedy a disease.

But, when diseases like Zika and Ebola spread, it’s harder to ignore a possible lifesaver.

Passport Health is partnering with Uber to deliver flu shots to 17 cities throughout the U.S. on Tuesday, Oct. 25th.

“Flu vaccines keep our communities healthy, and the more flu shots we can deliver -the healthier we all are,” said Paul Fishburn, Chief Operating Officer for Passport Health. “This partnership with Uber allows us to vaccinate people in an innovative way, which makes it intriguing for the patient and a lot of fun for our nurses.”

The event will take place from 11 am to 3 pm in these locations:

• Boston, MA
• Birmingham, AL
• Chicago, IL
• Columbus, OH
• Connecticut
• Delaware
• Houston, TX
• Jacksonville, FL
• Philadelphia, PA

Influenza affects up to 20 percent of the population every year, yet less than half of adults get the flu shot. Some people are not healthy enough to get the flu vaccine, which is why Uber and Passport Heath want to make it easy for those who can get a flu shot to get one.

Uber and Passport Health first partnered in 2014, with a flu program that debuted in three cities. In 2015, the program expanded to even more cities. This 2016 program aims to help local communities avoid influenza throughout the flu season.

Passport Health has previously partnered with government and health organizations to provide travel and other key immunizations. These partnerships include helping the U.S. government provide anthrax vaccinations after the 2001 anthrax attacks.

The company’s mobile flu participation began in 2014 with its initial partnership with Uber.

During the 1940s and 1950s, Americans were hit with a plague. The disease spread fear as quickly as it filled hospital beds. The plague was Polio, and no one was exempt.

Even a President of the United States, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, spent his time in office in a wheelchair due to paralysis caused by polio.

For Americans, the widespread epidemic has passed. According to the Mayo Clinic, the last naturally-occurring case of polio in the U.S. happened in 1979. Despite that knowledge and the discovery of an effective vaccine back in 1953, we still need to be wary of the disease. Unlike the iron lung that was used in treatment, polio isn’t a thing of the past.

Polio is still considered an endemic in a few countries like Afghanistan, Pakistan and some African countries, most recently Nigeria. According to CNN Health, Nigerian health officials are especially concerned because, after two years of being clear of polio, two new cases have been found.

Russia’s been center stage in the news for political and social issues, and now it seems Russia has the potential to cause widespread smallpox and anthrax outbreaks.

This summer, a town in eastern Russia saw an outbreak of anthrax, which, according to TIME, was the first outbreak Russia’s seen in 75 years.

Experts suspect that climate change is contributing to the possibility of these outbreaks.

As temperatures increase in Russia, specifically in the Siberian regions, the ground thaws. This creates a problem because Russians buried their dead under the frozen ground. As the ground thaws, the bodies become exposed and carry potential diseases.

If smallpox and anthrax were to resurface in Russia, it wouldn’t take much for the diseases to spread. Though Russia is across the ocean and then some, those diseases are highly contagious and spread quickly. Water and land aren’t barriers to anthrax and smallpox like they may have been in the past.
